7.1 Conditional Sentences (शर्तीय वाक्य)

7.1.1 What are Conditional Sentences? (शर्तीय वाक्य क्या हैं?):
Conditional sentences describe situations that depend on a condition. They often use "if" to introduce the condition.

Types of Conditional Sentences (शर्तीय वाक्यों के प्रकार):

  1. Zero Conditional (शून्य शर्त): For general truths or scientific facts.
    Structure (संरचना): If + Present Simple, Present Simple
    Example: "If you heat water, it boils."
  2. First Conditional (पहली शर्त): For real and possible situations in the future.
    Structure (संरचना): If + Present Simple, Will + Base Form of Verb
    Example: "If it rains, we will cancel the trip."
  3. Second Conditional (दूसरी शर्त): For hypothetical or unlikely situations in the present or future.
    Structure (संरचना): If + Past Simple, Would + Base Form of Verb
    Example: "If I were rich, I would travel the world."
  4. Third Conditional (तीसरी शर्त): For hypothetical situations in the past that did not happen.
    Structure (संरचना): If + Past Perfect, Would Have + Past Participle
    Example: "If she had studied harder, she would have passed the exam."

7.2 Complex Sentences (जटिल वाक्य)

7.2.1 What are Complex Sentences? (जटिल वाक्य क्या हैं?):
Complex sentences consist of one main clause and one or more subordinate (dependent) clauses.

Types of Subordinate Clauses (उपवाक्यों के प्रकार):

  1. Adjective Clauses (विशेषण उपवाक्य): Describe nouns.
    Structure (संरचना): Relative Pronoun (who, which, that) + Subject + Verb
    Example: "The book that I borrowed is interesting."
  2. Adverbial Clauses (क्रियाविशेषण उपवाक्य): Modify verbs, adjectives, or adverbs.
    Structure (संरचना): Subordinating Conjunction (because, although, if) + Subject + Verb
    Example: "I will go to the park if it stops raining."
  3. Noun Clauses (संज्ञा उपवाक्य): Function as a noun in the sentence.
    Structure (संरचना): That + Subject + Verb
    Example: "What you said is true."

  • Identify and underline the subordinate clauses in the following sentences:
    1. "The teacher praised the student who answered all the questions correctly."

7.3 Passive Voice (निष्क्रिय वॉयस)

7.3.1 What is Passive Voice? (निष्क्रिय वॉयस क्या है?):
In passive voice, the object of an action becomes the subject of the sentence. The focus is on the action and the recipient rather than the doer.

Structure (संरचना):

  • Affirmative (सकारात्मक): Subject + Form of "Be" + Past Participle + (By + Agent)
    Example: "The cake was baked by Mary."
  • Negative (नकारात्मक): Subject + Form of "Be" + Not + Past Participle + (By + Agent)
    Example: "The book was not read by the students."
  • Interrogative (प्रश्नवाचक): Form of "Be" + Subject + Past Participle + (By + Agent)?
    Example: "Was the report written by John?"

Exercise 7.3.1:

  • Convert the following sentences into passive voice:
    1. "The chef cooked a delicious meal."
    2. "The children will play football."
    3. "She is writing a letter."

Types of Reported Speech (प्रतिवादी भाषण के प्रकार):

  1. Statements (बयान):
    Structure (संरचना): Reporting Verb (said, told) + That + Subject + Reported Speech
    Example: "She said that she was going to the market."
  2. Questions (प्रश्न):
    Structure (संरचना): Reporting Verb (asked, inquired) + Subject + Reported Speech
    Example: "He asked if I had finished the work."
  3. Commands (आदेश):
    Structure (संरचना): Reporting Verb (told, instructed) + Object + To + Base Form of Verb
    Example: "She told him to call her later."

Exercise 7.4.1:

  • Convert the following direct speech sentences into reported speech:

Types of Advanced Structures (उन्नत संरचनाओं के प्रकार):

  1. Compound Sentences (संयुक्त वाक्य): Two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so).
    Structure (संरचना): Independent Clause + , + Coordinating Conjunction + Independent Clause
    Example: "I wanted to go to the park, but it started raining."
  2. Complex Sentences (जटिल वाक्य): Contains an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses.
    Structure (संरचना): Independent Clause + Subordinate Conjunction + Dependent Clause
    Example: "Although it was raining, we went to the park."
